Lafayette Reservoir Run Staffing
Lafayette Juniors volunteer to work the registration tables and hand out goody bags at the annual Lafayette Reservoir Run. Participation in this event is an excellent opportunity to support a community wide fundraiser, benefiting the Lafayette school district. Several members work early, and then run, walk or stroll the race with their family and friends and enjoy the after race festival. The race is held the last Sunday in October and hosted by the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Oakwood Athletic Club and various other local sponsors.
Comfort Pillow Project
Lafayette Juniors sew approximately 250 heart-shaped pillows per year, delivering them to local breast cancer centers. These comfort pillows provide relief to women with breast cancer as they slide under the arm, easing pain following surgery. To make the pillows, Juniors join together quarterly at fellow members homes, for a fun "pillow party." It is not necessary to know how to sew to participate as there are various roles for all experience and skill levels.
If you would like to contribute to this project, we are always in need of nice fabric in which to make the pillows. We would be grateful for any of your fabric donations.
Senior Helpline Services Cards
Juniors write and send cards to Senior citizens for Valentines Day, Spring Time, Fall Harvest, Thanksgiving and Holidays. For some recipients, this may be the only personal mail they receive. We work in conjunction with Senior Helpline Services, a non-profit organization in Lafayette that has several programs for Seniors in need.
Blankets for Contra Costa County Foster Children
Lafayette Juniors hand make and distributes fleece tie blankets to children in Contra Costa County who are in transition of leaving their homes and entering foster care. Members make the blankets at home on their own time and often with the assistance of their younger children who can understand and learn the power of giving to other children in need.
We welcome community support of this project. If you woud like to contribute a tie blanket or have extra fleece that you would like to donate, please contact us at JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING .
Lafayette Tot Lot/Parks and Recreation Clean-Up
Lafayette Juniors and their families dedicate hours each year to cleaning the Lafayette Community Center Tot Lot park. Juniors bring rakes, brooms, shovels, wheel barrows, work gloves and muscle power to provide this wonderful service to our youngest community members.
Holiday Gift Drive with VESTIA
Juniors provide gifts fulfilling the specific wishes of children in foster care within Contra Costa County during the fall and winter months.
